SEL, ABS, Brake and Trac Off lts but no codes
These warning lights are lit but my code reader (Actron CP9180) shows 'pass' meaning no fault codes. I had a similar thing happen about a year ago Before I had my own reader) and the cause was a faulty speed sensor on one wheel. Since then all 4 hubs have been replaced. Does this sound like the brake module?

Removed the module, cleaned and blew out the connector with no change to the light status.
I've sent the unit to Module Master for service/exchange. Krivasauto- Your pics and descriptions were a huge help, thanks! |

Rcvd rebuilt module from Modulemaster, indicator lights and ABS are back to normal.

Cost in May was $160 + $12 shipping.
As I recall I sent it to them for evaluation, they called back with a price. Cheaper than a new one, repair came with a 5 year warranty. By the way I replaced all three engine mounts, made a huge difference, quieted the car down. |

How much did it cost for the engine mount replacement? If u dont mind me asking. I am thinking I need mine done soon the engine shakes and ou can feel it through the whole car. Not horribly bad. just Very annoying and that is the last thing I could think of.

I appologize for resurecting this old topic. I've read thru several of the similar strings of chats about the three lights sporatically coming on (SEL, Brake and TRAC). But I am trying to be absolutely sure before I start removing parts that things will be OK. My car is a '99 Intrigue, 3.5L with the Trac Control option. And I DO have the Bosch 5.3 ABS Module.
My symtoms are: Reads "PASS" on my Actron cheapy reader. If the car is cool it takes about 20 minutes of driving before the lights come on, and generally stay on until the car is back to ambient temperature. I re-seated all the wheel sensor conectors and the Module connector (large rectagular one). all the contacts looked good and clean. But the problem persists. I poked around on the Module Masters website and learned of a test to check the Ohms and Volyage output of all wheel sensors, which I guess I should still do. But they also discuss that when replacing certain part numbered Bosch EBTCM's you need to take the vehicle to the dealer to have the module reset. Has anybody had experience with having to do this? Based on my symptoms of the lights resetting when cool, and coming on again after sime mileage (warming up) I am heavily bias to think my problem is the module itself. I just called O'Reilly's and was quoted a net price of about $150+tax, which I feel is reasonable. As always, sincere thanks, Steve

I'll post a suggestion which I hope won't be too "out to lunch": can you place a couple of pieces of dry ice around the module area, so as to troubleshoot the thermal aspects of the problem? If you can do so, and the problem does not show up, it would lend some credence to your guess that the issue is heat/thermal related, and has to do with the module. You could wrap the pieces in a layer or two of rags, both to control the cold, and to help hold the dry ice in position around the module. Dry ice is minus 105 F, or minus 70 C, so it will keep things cold... Krivasauto made the initial reply to the O.P. (so it is the second post), and his link to his shutterfly photos is just great. Sure wish he was still posting, but those outstanding photos of his are still out there on shutterfly.

Current status. This morning needed to take the vehicle to the shop that recently installed my remanufactured 1/2 shafts (CV-Driveshafts). as I was checking the sensors at each wheel, I discovered that the driver side outer boot was definitely the wrong one. When the wheels are turned to the extremes (left/right) the boot actually pulls and stretches!! and I even had the beginning of a little tear/hole. Basically it spun me up to a level of pissed-off that I've never been before. So I took the car in, he called me back wanting me to pay for a whole new assembly! I firmly stuck to "It is the incorrect boot, and it needs to be replaced." But I did ask him to use his OBDII-type 2 tester for the ABS system, and let me know what codes show up.
Anyway, thanks for letting me vent. .... Read on... next update...

I have an update on the ABS Module. Fhofstra, I thought about your clever suggestion, but couldn't quite go down that path. But thank you very much for taking the time to post it! But let me fill you all in on the latest. Today I drove 90 miles on the freeways here in Southern California to attend a Christmas gathering. The weather was a bit chilly (in the mid-60's), and the traffic was flowing (70 mph most of the time). So the engine compartment most likely stayed reasonable cool with all the cool air swirling around the engine. Thus the IP trouble lights never came on! Tomorrow I am going to order a new module (re-manufactured) from my local auto parts store. I conclude that temperature from the warm engine soaking all the components in the engine compartment is what is affecting the module. PS. did get the one 1/2-shaft replaced.
