Now that summer is upon us, many of you will no doubt be taking your cars out of the garage for some much-needed TLC.
If you're planning on that TLC including tire replacement of any kind, Edmunds.com has put together a good piece about what to know regarding the warranty on your new tires. After all, there's nothing quite like having something go wrong only to find that a warranty was voided by a minor decision, right? Check it out: Quote:

To add to this, don't just buy a tire because the shop recommends it! Do you RESEARCH! The internet has countless resources for consumers to look at what others have to say about their tires after real-world usage. Tires can be quite expensive, so there is no sense in jumping in blindfolded!

Not only do research on the tire but research your choices based on the car you drive, not every car has the same suspension setup and could effect tire wear slightly different.

Re: Buying New Tires? Five Warranty Details to Know
Also be careful not to purchase old tires that have been in the store's inventory too long. Tires can break down with age and their useful life will be shortened.
To determine a tire's production date look for the tire identification number. It is a combination of letters and numbers that tell where the tire was produced and when. If the tire was produced before the year 2000 there will be a three digit code. For example if the code reads 128 then the tire was made during the 12th week of 1998. After 2000 tire manufacturers switched to a four digit code. A code of 2509 means the tire was produced the 25th week of 2009. Try to purchase tires with the latest codes if possible to ensure freshness. If possible visually inspect the new tires before purchase to make sure there is no dry rot or other issues related to long term storage.
