2005 3/4 4X4 5-9 cummins pan leak
We had the engine rebuilt and the old pan had some rust spots nothing through but we bought a new pan. Now after a few nights of frustrating work we finally got it in and running ! But.. the pan is leaking, tried tightening but no help. I have been wondering if there is a different gasket we should have used or someway to stop it without pulling the engine or transmission?

We use Ultra Gray silicon to seal the gaskets on pans on race engines

Re: 2005 3/4 4X4 5-9 cummins pan leak
It's a single piece gasket, hard to screw up especially with the engine out for overhaul but sh*t happens. That's a stamped steel pan. Could it be distorted? The gasket can be changed w/ out removing the engine or trans. Not much clearance between oil pan and cross member so lifting the engine is a must. Be happy it's not a gas engine or you would be pulling the trans. I always load up extra silicone in the corners. Ultra Gray is very good but any RTV should do. Buy an OEM gasket too.
