With Mods on a stock 89 Civic Si engine, is the resulting bang worth the bucks?

I was thinking of doing some modifications to my stock engine. I was wondering what kind of things can be done to it to get more power and how much it would cost to do it.
My friend suggested porting and polishing the head, putting some new headers in, an intake, and something about a valve angle job. how much would doing all this cost? Also, is the gain in speed worth the effort or is it just cheaper to just drop another engine in?

Well it seems the USDM cars didnt benifit from the same header design as the JDM cars, so a new seat of headers will make a nice differnce.

However once you start with porting the head, adding some cam's etc, you really need to start thinking about prehaps doing a swap.
Why spend the time and money building your engine up to make say, 130hp, when for probobly the same amount of money you could drop in a Japanese ZC engine and have that 130hp.

IMO the engine swap is the better option, especialy if your serius about more hp.
