Re: WARNING Sparkplug problems- 5.4 Triton engine

Ok, 3 years later update:
Still driving this truck every day and running the same set of Champions. Truck has 263,000 miles, so there's 163K on the plugs.
I've had to replace 5 or 6 coil packs but (so far) the Champs are still working fine.
My gas mileage has stayed consistent (14- 17 MPG depending on roads).
Cold starts I hear a valve tap for a couple seconds, otherwise the engine is fine. Hoping to get another reliable 100K before replacing the truck.

Re: WARNING Sparkplug problems- 5.4 Triton engine

I got a recall notice recently on my 05 5.4 for the spark plugs. Says I can get reimbursed for previous work from broken plugs. Like I still have the receipts from back then.

Re: WARNING Sparkplug problems- 5.4 Triton engine

It's been awhile so I'll update again.
Truck and Champions are still going strong at 314000 miles. Pretty good for 'bad' spark plugs!

Re: WARNING Sparkplug problems- 5.4 Triton engine

I'm so lucky that this weekend I'm changing the timing chains and guides. One of the guides broke and has the cams ever so slightly out of time with each other that it is sending a code and won't pass emissions test to renew the license plates because of it. Did the cam phasers three years ago and didn't at the time want to take everything off the front of the motor to also do the guides and chains.

@arks - Just read the whole thread and that is awesome. Love it when a person buys basic and it lasts forever.

But, still I might put champions in the riding lawn mower but I doubt I'd do it in my truck.
