'02 Malibu door panel.
I have a '02 Chevy Malibu, and i was about to replace the front speakers when i got really confused. I was about to take the door panels off, starting on the passenger door. I got the screw out of the door lock/handle area, and got the black piece around the door lock/handle off. Then got the two screws hidden behind the door armrest handle. Then i got the window crank off. And i am pretty sure all that is left is the clips that keep the door panel on. But I can't seem to figure out how to unclip them. I tried pulling on it, but didn't want to pull too hard and break it. Is there any special way to take them off?
I would really appreciate any help. thank you. |

Remove the front door trim panel insert, front door only.
Remove the door handle bezel. Remove the window regulator handle, if equipped. Remove the power window switch, if equipped.. Use a flat bladed tool in order to pry the door handle plug Remove the door trim handle screws Remove the door trim panel from the retainers . Start at the bottom front corner service slot and gently pry outward. Remove the door trim panel from the vehicle.

Insert is the piece up in the top corner near mirror.
Retainers are the plastic "christmas tree" clips that hold the door panel to the door.

Re: Re: '02 Malibu door panel.
I did not have the tool to remove the window crank, so I don't know how to use it. However, the alternative way to get it off that I used requires a little time and effort. I used an old cloth rag, and got it in between the window crank and the door panel. Then I pulled it back and forth like one of those old saws. You'll have to try it from different angles, so you catch the clip just right. The clip may pop off, so try to keep an eye out for it. As soon as it comes off tho, put the clip back onto the crank (without putting it back into the door), so you don't lose it. It also makes reinstallation a breeze. While the clip is already on the crank, all you have to do it push it back onto the rod it came off, and the clip will snap right back into place.
