05 durango oil light is on at start up only
Hey everybody, I have a 05 Durango. My oil light comes on when I first start it up. Now it only happens when the truck is cold, and if I turn it off and restart it right away it goes away, until the next cold start. If I dont restart it, it will stay on. This leads me to believe its just a sensor problem maybe? Then again If i knew I wouldnt be crying out for help! lol Any help would be appreciated
Thank You

I assume if you rev it or are driving, the oil light is still on, if you don't restart? If so, I'd assume like you, a sensor issue. Possibly a bad oil pressure sensor or something along those lines. If the light is on, but goes off after revving or driving then it might be a oil pickup/pump problem. Remove the oil dipstick, if it smells gassy, change it.

Probly is a sensor problem. Have you changed the oil and filter yet? If you haven't use a good 5-30 and a Mopar filter with the anti-drainback valve and it might help. How many miles are on your Durango?

Re: 05 durango oil light is on at start up only
Hey guys thanks for the tips. @82stang...the light will not go away with revving. and i havent let it stay on long enough to find out if it will go away with warming up. @james i have 101k on it. and i havent done the oil change myself on it in a year...sounds bad but it takes 7 quarts...i can get it done at the shop fo 25 bucks. I will do the next one with the mopar filter and see what happens. Thanks again guys!

The oil change is a good place to start.
