Psi
Im a newbie when it comes to car and customization i have a 98 base 3000gt and i was wondering how much psi this car has. All i know is that my car has 163hp and i got my ass kicked by a cavalier the other day, the reason i want to know this is because i wanted to install a turbo.

Re: Psi
How much psi it has? As far as boosting goes you have a vacuum which is the opposite of boost or psi>0. In order to get in pressure you would need a type of forced induction such as a turbo/s or supercharger. Unless I am completely misunderstanding this and your talking about oil or tire pressure or something else.

Re: Psi
He's probably talking compression.
The SOHC has 8.9:1 compression which when doing a compression check should be around 173 psi on a healthy engine. For the sheer fact that it would be 100 percent custon I wouldn't waste my time on turboing a SOHC. You would be further ahead to do a TT swap. You'd have a stronger engine that is made to be boosted and could use all stock parts. That being said though, if you are not attached to the car, sell it and get a VR4. No swap needed and you have the traction of AWD.

Re: Psi
TT is Twin Turbo.
Its not cheap, but it would be cheaper and easier than a custom turbo set up.

Re: Psi
sounds like you need to do some serious homework. For your year the 3kgt came in 3 flavors; Base, like you have, with the 163hp SOHC (meaning single overhead cam) engine. SL, with a 222hp DOHC (dual overhead cams). And the VR-4, which was a 320hp, twin turbo DOHC with all wheel drive.
basically what stealthee's saying, it that you'd be better off either just selling your car and buying a VR-4, or swapping out your entire engine for a VR-4 engine. |
