1980 canam 250 mx6 <nightmare>

hey i traded a old honda for this bike it apparently runs great but the problem is i kno nothing about dirtbikes but the major problem is the wireing is all spliced cut taped im so confused and i need a new throttle cable and the bike was in use without a carb filter and the carb is full of shit! where do i start?

Welcome to AF. That is an oldie.

You can start be getting a new throttle cable if you can find the part. 28 year old dirt bike and parts may be hard to come by. Next remove the carb and do a thorough clean up with carb cleaner. Remove the float bowl, clean the venturi and all jets and throttle slide. Problem is if you do this you will most likely need a gasket and o-ring set. Also, if this was run without an air filter for any length of time then there may be bottom and upper end damage to the engine. The piston and cylinder walls could be all scored or scratched up so a rebuild may be in order.

Where is the taped wiring located?

the yellow wires are for lighting.
the single black wire is for your killswitch.
the other four go to the ignition coil.
(hope this helps, i have a few can-ams...)
