Question

Why does the SR20 inherently have such low low-end power? I know a DOHC needs revs to get up to speed, but it's still a decent size engine. I noticed that the Saturn 1.9L doesn't have this problem, and the Audi, with its 1.8T, has pretty good power even before the turbo kicks in.

What can be upgraded to increase low-end power? I noticed most of the upgrades only help the top end, like exhaust and intake.

something to do with the fact that all the cars above have higher torque unlike the g20. I'm not too technical but I do know that the Audi power peaks at 3000-7000 rev ..whereas the g20 only at 5500.

Noticed that SR20DE is designed to be a high rev engine, and it has good mid range and ok low end. But the G20 is way too heavy for a engine that small. I have seen some test drive report about the Japanese Primera ( with automatic, Jap spec SR20DE with has high compression ratio, 150hp and almost 400 lb LIGHTER than the G) and the test driver though that the Primera was very quick off the line. Now that because the 400 lb difference.
The Saturn 1.9 Dohc is relatively less horse but again the car is very light, with a small gear ratio, so the car feel torquey and easy to drive.
Audi 1.8T with low boost turbo, it is originally designed to be a very torquey motor with flat torque curve. Because of the low boost so it doesn't need too low compression ratio and very low end torque still decent.

I always thought my car had very good low end torque...

It's a Jap Primera (150HP model) with 5 speed.

Can't wait to get a new exhaust system and cold air intake

Drive a Honda Civic, then ask yourself the same question
No, but seriously, our cars are designed with mid range power in mind. They won't have the low end power, of say an american V8, however, we don't have to rev teh crap out of our motor to make power either. Also the transmission makes a huge difference, my old 94 auto felt like crap off the line, my new car, a 5-spd is MUCH faster off the line. Just depends... Also, you could try a set of cams designed for low end power (if they even make them, maybe the Tomei cams???)
