Noise From Front Axle
I have a 96 RAM1500 4X4 with about 134000 miles and whenever I am at slow speeds maybe somewhere between 1 and 10 mph I here a noise sounds like the front drivers side tire is rubbing, but no tire rubbing have had it looked at a couple of times but still don't know what it is. Mostly notice it at low speed when I turn but also does it occassionally just driving straight.
I have now noticed that if I press down slightly on the brakes it goes away. I have replaced the calipers and brake pads. I don't know if a warped rotor could be it. Last edited by idspud26; 10-16-2005 at 11:33 PM. |

Re: Noise From Front Axle
My front end did the same thing when my u joints started to go bad. First it sounded like a tire rubbing but i couldnt see any signs of it. After it turned into more of a clunking sound i checked out the u joints and they needed to be replaced

I had a similar sounding noise in my truck...try shifting into nuetral while rolling along slowly. If the noise stops then it is the shift linkage. It was suggested to me on this board to use WD40 every now and then or whenever the rubbing sound came back. It has been good ever since.
