Talking 97 Villager-Speedometer not working

Hi! My dad just bought me a 97 Villager and the speedometer isn't working. The check engine light is on as well. He bought it from a close family friend who told my dad that the check engine light literally JUST came on. My dad says its a speed sensor, but I thought that caused other issues as well? The only thing wrong is the speedometer....and check engine light. Could it be a bad cable?

Thanks!!

Jess

Sorry for the late response, sounds like a bad gear on the speedometer head in the transmission. Remove and inspect, if nylon gear is not worn hook a drill to it and see if gear rotates if not replace.
