2001 Grand Prix GTP - Major Oil Leak
This is on a 2001 Grand Prix GTP. Yesterday while driving home my car started smoking (Oil hitting the exhaust pipe) and then when I parked I seen a huge puddle of oil. I took everything apart this morning to see this. It looks like the sensor that is connected to the oil filter that checks the viscosity? I tried to see if there was play in it but it didn't seem to be loose. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Major Oil Leak
Actually, it doesn't leak out of the motor, it leaks out of the electical connector......easily replaced.....

Re: Major Oil Leak
Thats more than likely the OIL PRESSURE sender switch. They'll leak at the sealing area between the metal shell and the plastic insulator. Pretty easy repair. Even a caveman can do it! But I dont think thats the only leak ya got on that engine.

Re: Major Oil Leak
Yeah, DeltaP is right, it is the oil pressure switch.....the oil is hitting the axle and is flinging it everywhere......after replacement, lay papers down and wash down the P/S pump, block, oil filter housing, power steering lines, cradle, etc., with Brake klean......then road test and recheck for leaks....

Re: Major Oil Leak
3800's can leak oil out of the Oil Pressure Sender like you describe. They can leak out of where the connector plugs in, or also out of where the plastic mates the metal. I have seen both places leak.
The oil filter adapter gasket is another common leak spot. Based on the pictures, I'd replace the Oil Pressure Switch. They are fairly inexpensive, and easy to replace, Just unscrew.

Re: Major Oil Leak

Re: Major Oil Leak
New oil pressure switch did the trick. Next week I will do my annual plastic coolant elbow change and the supercharger pulley that has been rattling.
