Just for clarification I said "get much speed OUT of it", not to start with.

Re: Whats a nice import car for 4-5k?
I know you said Import but what about an early model Ford Probe GT(93ish). They are reliable and surprisingly fun to drive and not too slow. They also have a big aftermarket. If you got one of them you'd still have money left over.

Don't bother with the 300zx unless it's the twin turbo (which is nowhere near your budget). The n/a models are slow.

the N/A still has about 220 HP and you can find a 1st gen TT for cheap.

Re: Whats a nice import car for 4-5k?
Im not sure about that. I'll look into them some more and let you know. Let me know when he gets back to you about what engine work needs to be done. Its not always the best idea to spend all your money on a car that needs work if you dont have more money to fix it. But let me know whats wrong and Ill look to see what a good price is for them.

Re: Whats a nice import car for 4-5k?
well if its just some minor stuff that still allow the car to run fine, then i can just wait like 2 months and get a new engine for it and get it swapped (i checked the engines are about 800-900)

Re: Whats a nice import car for 4-5k?
Looks like a nice ride. So long as everything short of the engine is good, I would say go for it and order a new engine to drop in there.

Re: Whats a nice import car for 4-5k?
aight well my new coworker who started working today his dad owns a car shop and so he knows quite abit about cars, and he has some crappy pos ford festiva or somethin but he swapped an mr2 engine in it and its loud as shit
he also said hed look at my car i was telling him about the mr2 that i linked and he told me he knows a bunch of people selling mr2s for less than that theres one thats about 25 miles from me (as opposed to the 260 miles) and its red i think but ya its got around the same milage he thinks, and its the turbo one but its an after market turbo so its faster and it doesnt need any engine work. and most of all its only 1000 for him atleast, but he said he can hook me up so i can get it for 1000, im gonna check it out sometime GOD I WANT IT!!!!!!!!!!!! its also 1992 so would u rather go for a lude, tegra, 240, 300 or an mr2? for 1k? question is, where do i put my SUBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! in the front? lol theres like 1 cf in ther, and int he back theres about 5.5 but i wont be able to hear anything do to the engine

Re: Whats a nice import car for 4-5k?
The engine cost 800 but not all of us have the materials, time, and know how to do an engine swap ourselves. I helped with one before(a mechanic that I used to work with) and it took him about 6+ hours so it isn't cheap to do. I would def. get the MR2 for a grand if it looks legit.

Re: Whats a nice import car for 4-5k?
The aftermarket is good too because the VIN on the car will show the insurance company is N/A. However, find out when the turbo was put on because it may need to be rebuilt. Just dont jump into anything.

Re: Whats a nice import car for 4-5k?
My understanding of that message was that it was already a turbo just with an aftermarket turbo in place of the stock. Could be wrong, though.
Easy way to tell is by engine size. I believe (you can confirm it somewhere) the turbo is 2.0 and the NA is 2.2 |
