Re: So the XXX came in a lot earlier than expected...

Are you really going to have it so loud right behind your seat that porting it will be necessary? Or is it that you want a particular frequency boosted? I'm still a little fuzzy on the exact differences between ported and sealed enclosures, so feel free to enlighten me. Basically I know that sealed gives a good flat bass response, and ported gives a slightly boosted sound level overall and a greatly boosted volume at a specific frequency depending on the length of the tubes involved.

Re: So the XXX came in a lot earlier than expected...

Ported is 3dB louder than sealed on average and as much as 6-9dB louder at the tuned frequincy with the same given input wattage. ported can be made to have an extremely high dB peak with high tuning or a responce as flat as sealed with an extended responce. or a mix og the two. around 28Hz is good for vehciles because most audio tracks dont have frequincies below 30Hz few venturing into the 25Hz range. 28Hz will give an aproxamit flat responce down to about 20Hz. at which point, unless you are going to watch Master and commander in your car, you dont need responce to (in master in commander there is a 12Hz peak with harmonics in the 16-18Hz range with no sound above 27Hz made by a cannon going off in the distance. it isnt registerable unless you have a kickass HT. but once you experence it you will think you have seen god) 15Hz or lower. i like it loud with good SQ (SQL) so ported with low tuning is generally the wya to go.

Re: So the XXX came in a lot earlier than expected...

I guess the trick then is getting the right length of tube and the right box volume to go with it. Are there formulas you can use to find that balence? Or is it more of a trial and error thing to get it right?

Bro your in the little leagues as i like to call it, your telling me that a crapy little 50 dollar sub is beter than a hand perected 400 dollar sub, LOL dont make me laugh. The XXX will not blow your Pyramid hyper pros into shreds. Lol... amatuers... go read up and then come talk, dont think because youve got the loudest subs where you live (HIGHLY DOUBT THAT SPECIALLY WITH PYRAMIDS) that you can take on any other sub out there.
