Suggest an amp?

I have two Dual DS12 SVC subs in the trunk and the 300wmax amp i have now only powers one of them efficiently. They are rated 175w RMS, 500w MAX.

Not sure what kind of amp to buy that will power the full 175w rms to each sub without overloading the amp.

any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Suggest an amp?

what exactly are you looking to do ? doubling the power of the amp will only increase the audio output by 3 dB (not a whole lot). I would look for a class D amp that puts out 250-500 watts at 2 ohm (or 500-1000 watts at 1 ohm) then wire the subs in parallel. The box also makes a HUGE difference in the output of the sub.

maybe an amp like one of these

With what you probably paid for the subs, I would have a hard time spending more than $150-200 on an amp. Also remember the power wiring from the battery will determine how much power the amp can deliver.

Anything with Phoenix Gold, always have had good experience with them. Plus have preformed better than other amps with the same rattings.

Re: Suggest an amp?

I'd just look somewhere with good reviews. I typically try CraigsList and get deals there. I bought two abused Sony 10" subs and an amp for $30 with a power wire that needed to be taped up due to rubbing through the insulation. Painted the amp, put one sub in a 2007ish Chevy for my cousin, and they loved it. They didn't even want the other one, which would take up more floor space in the crew cab. So just look around online, wait for a good deal to pop up. Don't be afraid to offer less.

-I bought a JL W7 for $65 at a garage sale, in the box. They wanted $80. Sold the sub on Amazon, I got $250 after Amazon charges and shipping, minus my $65 investment, plus I still have the box. Just make sure you test it out first.
-I also bought an MTX Thunder 9500 for $50. Had to get rid of it for rent, sold it for $80-90 or something.
-An Alpine MRP-F250 with a JL 10w0 and a box for $20 instead of $50 because I tested it and thought the sub was blown (Bad dust cap. Glue fixed it.)
-Got two Rockford P1 12" (or whatever the cheap sub is) for $40 in an ugly box. Painted the trim rings with some Hammered paint and painted the stained box carpet black and sold them for $80.
-My Kicker L7 12" in a truck box for $200, had to buy a box for $100 on eBay, and they bump loud!

Just look for deals and wait to jump on something with cash. All these were in the past three years. I've lost my share on things, but you have to know what you're looking for and when to jump on it for the price.

Not audio, but I bought a '99 Honda XR80 for $90, still ran great! Replaced a tire and blew the clutch, still made out with $70 after everything, and got a lot of fun from it! Could've fixed it, but needed the cash right then and didn't want to deal with the project.
