2000 Chevy Malibu, Won't go over 4k RPM
I have a 2000 Chevy Malibu base and the engine will not go over 4,000 RPMs. Upon reaching it, it oscillates between 3500 and 4000 as long as I hold the accelerator down. We have gotten a lot of rain here in NY, and I may have driven through a puddle at some point. Any help is appreciated. Thank You.

Re: 2000 Chevy Malibu, Won't go over 4k RPM
If the car is in "park" or "neutral", then that's exactly what should happen. The PCM restricts the engine to 4000 RPM when not in gear. It also holds the motor in gear to a maximum of 6200 RPM or 107 MPH, whichever comes first. If it's in "drive", then the problem is most likely the "park/neutral position switch" located under the linkage on the top of the driver's side of the transaxle. It could defective, or simply misaligned. I hope that helps.

It is called a rev limiter as stated, so no one can "accidently" over rev the engine in nuetral/park.
