clear coat came out bad.

I have not shot a car in years. Tried to help my son>>>>>not good.
he wet sanded nicely. shot 3coats of GMC Black. (did not wet sand again) shot with 4 coats clear and the clear came out very spotty. dull in some areas gritty in others and perfect in others. Can we wet sand again? I'm gussing with 600 grit and re shoot. By the way we used the same gun for paint & clear at 35psi

Try wetsanding the rough area's out, and then reshoot the whole thing again. If that comes out pretty nice, wetsand with 2000.

You may also have an adhesion problem.I know some tricks if the spots your refering too are fish eyes or major orange peel. Also you used the same gun for both processes so what type of paint is your base and what type is the clear? I also have tricks for using different types of paint together and force curing methods that help. BTW I wish my dad had the same enthusiasm with auto stuff cus it woulda been funer to do things like that.

Sounds like you drysprayed....one of these things happened:

1) You sprayed from too far away so the paint dried before it hit the car

2) You sprayed too quickly, not allowing enough paint to accumulate and lay out flat like glass.

3) It was too hot when you sprayed or you sprayed in direct sunlight

These are the most common reasons for getting a textured/dull finish to your paint job.

Wish I thought of that , same thing happened to me a year ago on some trim with enamel paint. It was like dust falling off the trim lol thanks for the number cap
