78.33mpg
VW sells the Lupo 3L TDI ( Diesel ) in Germany.
Fuel consumption 78.33mpg - 71.21mpg Is a low consumption for Americans important? How important is Diesel for passenger cars in the US? . |

Very few people drive diesel cars in the US. The only diesel cars available are a few VW's, the Mercedes E320CDI, and the Jeep Liberty(called Cherokee in Germany).
Only about 2 out of 3 gas stations here have diesel, and our diesel has high suflur and low cetane. Also, while Europe regulates greenhouse gas emissions the most, the US is regulates NOx instead. So a lot of diesels won't pass emissions testing here. I have a Golf TDI and love it, but there are not a lot of them around. Most Americans don't care too much about fuel consumption. We just piss and moan when the price gets expensive, then a couple weeks later we move on. eta: I read about a guy who drove a 3L Lupo in a tour around Europe and got 100mpg! Hybrid schmybrid. |

its a 1.3 not a 3 litre. Fuel is more expensive over here (car is sold in UK aswell) its about 89p per litre for diesel (you do the conversions) thats more expensive than our petrol price! (by a few pennies) and we pay about 3 times as much as you for petrol!
