Need major help, FAST! i appreciate anyones advice

i posted a few weeks ago, but since then i have been looking at more different types of cars and narrowing things down.

*I know for a fact that i want a 4 cylinder, because they are good on gas, i have heard
*a coupe if possible
*and while looks do not matter THAT much, i would like a small, "cute", car
*something that wont break down in the first year would be nice

Anyone know anything about cavaliers, sunfires & honda civics

i dont want anything for performance or speed

just a reliable car that gets good milage and costs 5 thousand or less

Alot of people have been telling me that if you buy a used car from a dealer they are more likely to rip you off, compared to a private seller.

If you can help me i would appreciate it very much since i know little about cars and just need to get from point A to point B

I would say Cavalier/Sunfire. They will be easier to get parts for than the Honda, and are plenty reliable. The Honda will be more of an initial investment than the Cavalier would, since they are in high demand right now.

The new Beetle. lol. And only 200 lbs heavier than Civic Coupe, with adequate trunk space. But extremely spacious, even for rear passengers, with plenty of headroom. A real head-turner, as Civics are way more common.

Downside: stupid, small cupholders.

Honda Civics are the tried and true economy car. They hold up really well and arent all that expensive to buy and maintain. I would avoid the Sunfire/Cavalier at all costs, they dont have the greatest of records, there's a reason Chevy is ending production of the Cavalier while the Civic lives on.

If your against the Civic, a Mk. 2/3 VW Golf would be a good alternitive.

Finally, this probably isnt the kinda car your looking for, buy I know as a fact that you can get a used BMW 318is for under $5,000. There nicer then the econo-cars your looking at, but I just thought i'd throw that in.

Dont go with the Cavalier because you wont find one with less then 100,000 miles. People beat the hell out of their cavaliers.

I dont know much about the sunfire but I dont think theyre that cheap.

I would go with the Civic. Very very cheap, great gas mileage(around 30mpg), I guess it could qualify as "cute", and mods and parts will be very easy to find as there are sooo many civics on the road and so many ricers that like to mod them to think they are fast.

Well like AkinaSpecialist said good choice with the 96 Civic. It was the first year of the major redesign.

Manual or auto ahh what a debatable question lol. Ask yourself these questions?

Will you be racing? (autox, etc)
Where do you live? (city, suburbia, rural)
Whats your typical commute? (lots of errands? lots of curvy back roads?)

Oh yea, and keep in mind manual trannies do get a LITTLE better gas mileage. (although any civic period gets you great gas mileage)
