Better Gas Milage????

Is there a way I can get better gas milage for my 2002 1500 quad cab 4.7? I do not like the 13.5 miles per gallon I am averaging and most of that is highway miles! I don't goose it and run at about 65 avg.

I had a 98 chevy with a 5.7 that averaged 17 mpg....I really thought the 4.7 would do better!

whats the final drive ratio? 4:10? my '04 1500 QC OR has the hemi, and 3:92's but with the 275R17 tires, it runs about 1600 rpm at 60mph - it has 1500 miles on it and getting about 14.5 avg mpg so far. All i did was add a K&N filter so far. Try a test running a tankful with the gate down/off, Iff that improves mpg then you may want to go for a tonno cover

Neither Dodge or Ford are known for their gas mileage. The best I ever got with a Dodge was 15 mpg with a 5.9, the 4.7 I owned didn't get any better.

From my experience, the Chevy/GMC has gotten the best mileage across the board for comparable trucks. Chevys with the 5.7 are capable of 20 mpg under the right conditions. This is, I think, the best engine on the market (or should I say, WAS the best engine on the market) for dependability and fuel economy. Why they would quit making it is beyond me.

When I first bought my '96 I got about 14mpg. I bought a tonneau cover and a k&N filter. I also run lucas oils injecter cleaner about once a month and now I average 16-17mpg. Most of it is highway.

I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7 quad,installed K&N air filter, upgraded to mid grade gas and installed Flowmaster 50 series 943051 or URL http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/cg...er/943051.html.
Before with K/N 15.4 MPG, with Flowmaster after 650 + miles 18.2 MPG. I'm sold and very happy with this install, at 70 mph continous i have seen averages of 21.2 MPG.total install for the pipe here in south cal with chrome tip single was $167.00 out the door.

I'm putting new oxygen sensors in my truck, and I'm going to clean the cat out, and see if that helps. That's something you might want to think about...

condor...I like your idea, got the K&N filter and was wondering, did you go with one 50 series flowmaster as in the stock location, or did oyu go duals. Wouldn't duals help with les back pressure?

also, did you go with just a K&N stock type filter or the cold air intake set up?

gates44cutlass,went with the stock drop K&N filter and single Flowmaster muffler,from the cat to the muffler it's 3.0",and still using oem stock exhaust from muffler out.Duals would help I imagine, I'm no expert but I can post the results of what I'm getting before and after, I'd estimate I'm getting 20%+ increase in gas mileage.Just wanted to keep cost's down. I'm a very conservative driver and use cruise on the highway.Hope this info helps.The 50 series SUV muffler seem's realy ideal and a inch wider overall.I'm content with these upgrades,Good Luck.

I went with my o/h console fuel economy numbers for quite a while, and then, I went the old way. went to my fuel invoices, versus number of kilometers driven, and did the math. the two were not even close. But thats ok. sometimes basic math still takes the place of the most sophisticated computer.

Oh, and just for the heck of it, I put between 100 and 120,000 km a year on my trucks. I tend to keep a pretty close eye on fuel economy, as it becomes a large part of operating costs after a while.

Pind, I understand completely- my daily round trip is 75 miles, with the upgrades, I get a bit more then 5 total trips off 1 tank,before it was barely 4,tank size is 26 gallons.When the needle is registering empty,during the refill the difference is 3-4 gallons in the reserve. I'll try the old fashion way one of these day's,just need to remember to reset the odometer at the fillup time.

Those things dont get good gas milage... The dealer that owns one told me that. like our hemi is brand new.. 1200 miles and it gets 16mpg

Hey guys we installed a airrade cold air intake and t.b. spacer with stock ex. and we are gettin 21.8mpg at 70 to 80mph all we do is haul ass in this truck and it does wonderfull dont forget if you airraide not to for get to order mod. tube cuz they dont come together (trust me i learned the hard way) If you do this... take out the bottom bolt on the T.B. first because if you dont it will put to much press. on the bottom bolt and you will have to cut it out with a drimmel tool.... got any ?'s
