What are you up to with your car? Many events planned? I have just upgraded the top end on the 369. Fully ported the Victor Junior heads, upped comp ratio from 10.5 to 11.5, ported supervictor manifold with phenolic heat isolators and 750 Quickfuel carb. Expecting over 500rwhp now around 6500 - 6600. Kel.

Re: Rebuilding Dad's Panoz; LS1 swap
Yes. I have been shimming and adjusting since we bought the cars. Never found time to solve the issue and brace the mounts. Soon I hope.
I moved across the country and am building a new house for myself (with a giant new race shop 32x58) so racing has to take the year off. I sold my old house in Florida around May of this year and everything is packed inside the Renegade Toterhome parked in the woods at my construction site in Maine. I probably wont be racing till summer of 2013 at the earliest. I might go broke building my house :-) Also, I seem to have added lots of new projects that might take a front seat over road racing. I am building a 1 mile dirt track on my property for quads etc. Might build a jeep that I can jump :-) I have tree houses to build for the kids, I have a dock to build on the river at my property, I have trees to cut and split firewood......Lots going on. Plus I know live in the mountains and love hiking. I have a buddy up there that says I should convert the Panoz into a hill climbing monster on dirt trails. Who knows.

All that tedious work was worth it. Car turned out fantastic thanks to Precision Powdercoating (www.precision-powder-coat.com)

Re: Rebuilding Dad's Panoz; LS1 swap
Redid the swaybar arms as well as painting the engine mount adapters and tie rod sleeves.
Derustifying Derustified Nothing like freshly BBQ'd car parts (engine mount adapters, tie rod end sleeves, swaybar arms)... Fresh off the grill done in 2000 degree Rustoleum

Re: Rebuilding Dad's Panoz; LS1 swap
Spent the weekend restoring rest of the front suspension components. A wire wheel on my bench grinder made quick work of removing the old chipped paint. Cleaned and painted with 2000 degree primer then 2000 degree "flat aluminum" paint. Baked everything I could fit on the grill to cure. Will post a few more shots when the suspension is all together.
Before on the left, stripped on the right... After

Re: Rebuilding Dad's Panoz; LS1 swap
Question- I've been seeing this on more and more pics on this forum. Brian, on your chassis, on the upper frame rails in the engine bay area, you have what looks like two 3/4" rods that extend upward towards the hood. Mine does not have those.
Do they extend through the hood for a hood pin? Simply support the hood underneath? Do I need them? I won't be going as fast as Brian G's Yellow Bullet, but I will be at Daytona approaching his top speeds. 175-ish based on weight/HP/gearing. My production based Mustang got up to the low 160's with 340 rwhp and 3200#. I don't want things flying off the car.

Re: Rebuilding Dad's Panoz; LS1 swap
Those are hood supports that had thread-in rubber bumpers... never seen one that didn't have them so someone cut yours off. Many of us converted them to pins to reduce the hood buffeting that is prevalent on the plastic-bodied cars.
Panoz GTS with the bumpers in place. Converted to pins on our car.

Re: Rebuilding Dad's Panoz; LS1 swap
The windshield in both GTS's almost collapsed without the dash support and (3) 1/8 aluminum supports. I have since added more.
When we first got the car the hood seem to lift up dramatically at speeds over 3rd gear. IMHO you have to have the hood pins. I also think you should have the windshield supports. Especially at Daytona.

Re: Rebuilding Dad's Panoz; LS1 swap
Measure twice, cut once... majority of the heat shielding is complete. Much cleaner than the previous panels. Lighter too.

Re: Rebuilding Dad's Panoz; LS1 swap
Ordered new swaybar bushings from Panoz and found them to have more play in the inner diameter than the ones I took off the car. The bar is 1.250", the ID of the ones I took off the car with some wear was 1.265-1.275", and the ID of the brand new ones was 1.280-1.285". I ended up wrapping the ends of the bar in teflon tape to take up any play in the ends; worked great.
Cleaned up the brake lines and t-fitting that came off the car. I really think they painted these cars after they put them mostly together as everything seems to have black paint on it. I initially thought the front lines were just dirty, but it was dirt and black paint. Purchased a new firewall-to-t-fitting line from Panoz as the one on the car had been bent around so mmany times it looked like a wet noodle. Also, it was held in place with a zip-tie vs. the adel clamps and tek screws the Panoz assembly manual recommends. Coming together...
