08 Electrical Problem
I have a 2008 xls 4 cyl and just went to leave and all I get is some clicking. I have tested the battery and it is good. Indicator is green and test out with 12.83VDC.
Other than it not starting the head lights are screwed up. When I went to leave the head lights were on. Didn't think much of it, thinking I had just accidentally hit the unlock on the clicker. After futher testing I relized that each time I turn the headlights on there is some clicking in the colum, and fuse panel for a split second. Then the headlights go off and there is a humming buzzing noise from below the battery. Seems like a bad relay or something shorted out. Any Clue? Thanks, JASON |

Re: 08 Electrical Problem
Welcome to AF!
Electricity if a very elusive thing. It travels in a straight line, but to figure out what it is doing you need to check it at every point along that line. It is very difficult to be an arm chair mechanic and tell you what is going on. So your battery tests all right. It's got the voltage, but maybe not the amperage. You say when you go to leave all there is is some clicking. Are you talking about the starter clicking when you engage it or are you talking about something else? The headlights have a relay and it is normal for it to click when you turn the lights on.. Many relays are actuated when you turn on your key for the first time, could be any number of things. My guess is that if you aren't having trouble getting it to start why you don't need to worry about it at this point. If you are having trouble with starting you need to get it fixed. If the headlights or anything else was draining the battery you would, like you say, have less than 12.83 volts. You really need to take it to an electrical "car" repair shop if you have one near to where you live. If something is draining the battery pull off the negative side of it when you leave it off. Then when you come back you can put it back on and leave. Just loosen the connector on the end so you can take it on and off. It's really difficult to diagnose your problem without the ability to see and hear what it is doing. |
