Yeah, I consider it my expensive habit--US $8.00 a month! I started about 6 issues ago, IIRC. The articles are excellent and well written, and the photos are beautiful. I think it's worth it.

Try Top Gear. They are also good. I especially like how they get to the point, they say if the car sucks. Over here, they beat around the bush, and wont come right out and say a car sucks if it does.

According to their website, "Britain's best motoring magazine", eh? I don't think I've ever seen one around here. CAR was hard enough to find--I only know two places. Hmm... I have to get my hands on one of these, but a subscription is too much.

For me, Top Gear is $250 a year! Or I can buy each issue for $13. I go to Chapters, its a major Canadian bookstore, they have everything there! (unless its not english, so no jap or german stuff)

$250 a year!? $13 an issue?! Ouch, CAR is much cheaper. And I found Top Gear subscriptions online for less. Oops, my bad. You probably talking about Canadian dollars right?

Yup. But they recently e-mailed me and said I could get it for 70 pounds, or $160 ($100 bucks for you)

I found Top Gear at my local Barnes & Nobles, along with CAR. I'll tell you how I feel about it after I'm finished with it.

I guess I like CAR because it's so well designed and laid out--kind of an artsy-fartsy car magazine. So far, Top Gear looks like a typical magazine with magazine-like layouts.

I have tons of Top Gear and CAR magazine and all I can say is that these are by no means the best motoring mags in the uk, at least not for me .. i dont know if you have heard of EVO magazine (formerly known as Performance Car)
this mag focuses only on performance cars and the writing and photography are truly exquisite. every issue has a handful of simply awesome cars and the car of the year issues (december/jan.. cant remember) are sublime.. i just bought this months issue of CAR magzine, where they had their performance car of the year, and compared to EVO magazine'sI found it dull and uninformative...
i dont know if you ll be able to find EVO in the states but its a very fast growing mag so they might well export it....
heres the site address

http://www.evo.co.uk

cheers

I've seen it, so I'll have to buy it now!! It was at chapters also. My mom got me an issue of Fast Car when she was in England, and it was a little bit different than our car mags

Why is TG so expensive in the US???? Here in NZ (Where shipping them would cost more) I can get the July 2002 issue off the rack at any book store for US$8

But I read Top Gear and CAR, great writing, I especially like the way they are VERY witty (Especially good old Mr. Clarkson)

Anyone read What Car? They are also good, less witty, but more down to Earth

CAR is definetly my fav. car mag. Expensive though, I have to pay $13 for each issue here in Norway though.. unless I subscribe, but I've never really had the time to do that.. Lot of filling in to do, I reckon...

$8 US, yeah, that's how much it costs here. What are you talking about, more expensive? Wouldn't it be nearly $16 NZ? That's equivalent.

As for EVO. Yeah I read it. It's similar to CAR--great pics, great articles. I disagree with the typography of the publication however. It's more difficult to read, IMO.
