12" brake upgrade
Just completed the upgrade to 12" brakes.
Everyone lists the parts used from an Olds Intrigue for this mod, but the 2000 Chevy Monte Carlo has the larger rotor and caliper bracket needed as well. Bracket; Duralast part number 14-1134, $22.99 each at Autozone (with an additional $4 core on your old bracket). Rotor; Duralast 1 year warranty, part number 55034B, $37.99 each at Autozone. Get the hardware kit while you are at it; you could reuse the old dustboots, but for $6.49 for kit H5913, it really isn't worth the aggrivation of saving the old boots and clips. I had heard you can't do this upgrade with my original cross-laced wheels, so I had already swapped with a buddy for the 5 point star ones...now the caliper clears by a little less than 1/4"! Not a bad upgrade for less than $130, and both sides completed in less than an hour! |

Re: 12" brake upgrade
I've done this myself. It is a nice upgrade but be aware that your stock spare tire will not fit onto the front tires after this. I just found this out a couple of weekends ago.
