Question Rolls or Bentley

Can anyone tell me what the connection between the two aforementioned makes is with each other? It seems that when Rolls deploys and car, Bentley takes the model and makes simple changes and makes it better! Is that it! Is it what MG has become form Rover?

Please inform me!

Bentley is basically just an off cut off Roll's, but they arent related anymore. In fact Rolls Royce cars arent related to Rolls Royce anymore.

Bentley and Rolls Royce are the two greatest names in Luxury, but Bentleys criteria was more for power then Rolls Royces luxury limosines.

Rolls-Royce bought Bentley in 1931, they moved to Crewe in 1946. Vickers baught Rolls Royce, including Bentley and Cosworth in 1980.
In 1994, BMW starts suplying them with engines and drivetrains.
In 1998 VW won the bidding for Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Cossworth over BMW, but not willing to risk loosing it's engine suply, BMW got the rights to use the Rolls-Royce name and logo from 2003->.

BMW didn't start supplying engines to Rolls-Royce/Bentley until the Silver Seraph and Arnage came out in 1998.

VW did win the bidding for Rolls-Royce/Bentley in 1998. The problem was that Rolls-Royce plc (the aircraft engine maker) owned the rights to the name and all of the logos (including the mascot and grille). Rolls-Royce plc gave Rolls-Royce Motor Cars the rights to use all of those pieces as long as the company was in British hands. VW didn't negotiate with Rolls-Royce plc for anything and, since BMW was already working with "plc" on aero engines, BMW struck a deal to acquire all of the important pieces of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars out from under VW.

VW and BMW struck another deal that kept Rolls-Royce in production under VW's control until January 1, 2003 (production actually ended in August 2002). BMW, under the terms of the agreement with VW, couldn't use the Rolls-Royce name until January 1.

VW got the Crewe plant, Rolls-Royce's client list, and Bentley. BMW got the Rolls-Royce name and logos; they built a brand new plant and designed the Phantom which just entered production.
