2000 Grand Prix Bose Upgrade

Hello. I just joined due to postings about Bose. I have a 2000 GTP with the Bose system. I, too, want more control over the sound quality without disrupting the Bose circuitry. Does anyone know what would happen if I installed an aftermarket equalizer in the armrest? Would I still keep the Bose circuitry but get the control I want? My other idea was to get a Monsoon HU or a different HU with an equalizer. But my understanding is that I'll lose the Bose circuitry. Or should I just start replacing everything little by little.

I like the way it sounds right now, but on the highway, I do wish it was louder...and more bass at high levels would be nice too. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Ted from the Chicago area.

Re: 2000 Grand Prix Bose Upgrade

bose circuitry?
what exactly is this bose circuitry that you speak of?

honestly I would be itching to ditch everything Bose and replace it all, I've never heard anything made by Bose that even sounded remotely decent...they're all hype and name, the products are actually some of the worst on the market (speaking of both home and car).

Anyway, no you can't add an EQ to your stock system without at least getting an external amp and new speakers. And there's a 99% chance that you won't be able to swap in a different headunit (OEM or aftermarket) and still have everything work, just by nature of how the Bose systems are set up. You'll most likely have to ditch everything and replace it all at once unfortunately. There are a few cars where the Bose system can be changed and not replaced entirely (new speakers, amp/sub, etc), but in no case will you be able to add an EQ alone and still have it work.
