Next vehicle?

I know this in no way belongs in this forum but I respect you guys opinions a lot so I figured why not ask.
This isnt going to happen for at least a year since I am still in school, but I like to go hiking/mountian biking so I need an suv or a light truck since my little hatchback isnt the best thing to take off road. I have 2 options, 1 is get just an older cheap suv like an older jeep wrangler and option 2 is trading in the ep3 and getting a new/newer nicer suv. I dont know if i can trade in my car because I love it waaaaay too much. I have been thinking about getting something along the lines of an element because for some odd reason I like the way they look and they get good gas mileage. Any suggestions on what direction to go? It needs to be 4x4 and it doesnt need to be powerful, gas mileage to me is more important than raw power for this thing. For an older car id say I will seek out something at most about $7000, if I trade in my car I would be looking at around $20,000, more wouldnt be that big of a deal. Sooooo...gimme some thoughts.

Re: Next vehicle?

I was looking at SUV's before I bought the RSX for ski trips etc. I checked out the Wrangler, the X-terra and the 4-Runner. I always wanted to cruise in a Jeep with no doors and the top down, but honestly, the quality is crap (ever see a 2 year old Wrangler with rusting hinges?). The 4-Runner was nice, but too pricey. The X-terra is beefy, well made and can be had (used) for cheap. I also checked out the Durango, but reliability was questionable and gas mileage not so hot. I didn't even CONSIDER anything built by Ford after driving the Mustang...

What about something like a Mid 90's Blazer? A good friend of mine has one and he abuses the hell out of it with no serious problems yet...He takes it up to his cottage in the winter in northern ontario where they dont plough and he gets by pretty well...

and what about the Jeep LIberty? you could get the diesel thats coming out so you get good gas milage, and a bit more reliability (I assume after 5000000 years Merc knows how to make reliable diesel engines, ask the nazis...jerks...) the only major problem I know with them is the ease of rolling it over...but your not stupid and the Xterra I assume has the same tendencies

Re: Next vehicle?

mmmm diesel lol. Yeah with any of the suv's I will have a chance of rolling it because I will probably add at least a small lift to whatever I get just for a little added ground clearance. I like the xtera thats on my list of cars to look for when the time comes. Thanks for the input guys.
