Wow, so many of you learning at such a young age, I never even got an opportunity to be behind the wheel of a car until I was 18!!
I finally learned to drive stick a year ago, after buying a manual transmission Civic and needing to drive it home about 100 miles. Talk about a sink or swim lesson. |

Used to drive a friends 5 speed mustang when I was 17 I guess that was when I first learned to drive a standard.

Ya....i drove it like 4 hours a day tho. Before i drove i watched my dad shift EVERY time, watching his left foot before he shifted and then saw him switch gears let go of the clutch and apply the gas...watched the shift like a hawk. I dunno....i just wanted to drive a stick so badly all i wanted to do was practice But of course i still need that extra practice to get to be 100% smooth...still got a slight jolt...working on that tho

Does a manual dirt bike count? If so, then actually learned @ 5 rather than 10 in the dune buggy

i think i was 15 and my dad taught us in a weekend in my mom's spectrum....my bro didn't get the hang of it so i was the driver....although it took me about a month or 2 to get used to it but too me forever to get used to being stopped at lights at steep inclines

Hmm, I can't exactly recall. I was gripping the steering wheel at three on my old man's Farmall tractor, Had a small yard tractor when I was four (cheaper on fuel). I was driving my old man's S-10 and rail since we bought those when I was 11 or 12. Did a lot of private off road comp in the rail.
Three on the tree is just fine, I learned that in a friends `72 Chevy C-10 Fleetside. Had a lot more pick up and go power than most civics I came accros in Mesa. 720k on the odometer on it's second engine. -coyote |
