BMW M3e30 1/24

Ok, here back home and this time I wanna work over a too nice bmw of the past. I love old glories, and being myself a bimmer I would love to add to my collection the nice m3e30, first real M car of the 80s.
The only model on the market is the old fujimi kit. as well as the m3e46 nobody makes something decent about this car.neither in slot world u can take something lookingalike the real stuff.
What u get in the recently reissued fujimi model is first of all a new, stunning, really nice and welldetailed boxart:

..that makes u dream immediately, but the dreams becomes a nightmare when u open the box and u start study with a modellistic eye the plastics. searching around....u see what u finally could get with such model.
This stuff:

...that honestly dont looks so much similar to a bmw m3e30..

...so then u start searching other pics of what u would like to collect (without thinking at what u already get in the kit..)
and I would love this stuff:

or even better..something (for me) even more nicer, that is the racer version..

now compare this last pic to the one of the already finished fujimi model..and u will cry for some nights......

To be continued...

Re: BMW M3e30 1/24

I think Scale Production were working on an e30 M3 Body with correct body proportions. I recently build the e30 320i by Fujimi, terrible kit!

Re: BMW M3e30 1/24

after ending the tears duning those windy nights, I started study carefully what i have in my hands. It seems the whole body is too squared and lowered from the blueprints of the real car. As many other modellers pointed out the main mistake is around the roof , that here seems coming from an ugly lowrider.
But more u go on checking the body, more u see....tthat nose end section is mistaken and poor of details too, as well as the rear end looks more similar to a volvo 850 than to an e30 serie.

some resin come to fix this issue. Not completely, but is anyway better than nothing...

but it does not fit at all to kit nose, this cause the plastics are 3mm wider than the resin.so it is necessary cut all the upper bonnet and "eat" those 3 mm up there to make it fit correctly

Will watch with interest. You has tempted to take my E30 out and continue the work.
Good luck!

Re: BMW M3e30 1/24

thank u guys. Mikhail, your build and your help made me start with this
So, the front end is now reduced in dimension and it matchs to resin part, but also the rear trunk is a nightmare (still soo similar to volvo850.. ) and some surgeon is necessary also here.In the meanwhile I recognize ALL the rear must be cutted, as well as the rear bumber. Mistaken also this one in size and shape..

but as u see from this picture, also here the plastics are wider up to 2 mm than the resin parts

so..some further deep surgeon is necessary again.

..to be continued..

Re: BMW M3e30 1/24

more surgeon and fittings...
roof has been removed to be lifted of 2 mm

i want to recreate the front lip on the lower fwd bumper

and an actual picture from tonight situation....
No front,no roof, no trunk, and no rear. Ah, nearly forgot to mention also wheels are mistaken for the racer (they used 18" and 19" and kit features small 16" bbs..should check my spare box with porsche wheels..)

Incredible work ! When you finished with body, you should really find a way to make a master from it and
some copies for sale. May be Scale Production would be interested

Re: BMW M3e30 1/24

I think Mike already was planning it since sometime. He also surely likes such bmw´s and has surely skilled modellers able to make masters better than me or even better some 3d designers. My greatest hope was always around Mikhail, for his eyes and skills in such kinda works.
Surely in the future u all will have something decent to work on.maybe even from revell, who knows, lets go on click the like on theri dreampage (I already did 3 times, lol)
About resin copies I am a little hopeless, cause still at today I didnt find a decent way to make theme alone.Asked Chris and the skilled guys around here. Think the best could be Romik, but other friends told me he is already too busy, so I neither dare to ask him for now.
More, if u plan to sell something like this, I would deeply suggest to sell a full kit and not a transkit, cause the fujimi is already OOP again and is already easy to find it around 50 usd. U need a correct cockpit too and some nice wheels, depending if u wanna build a rally or a track car.

For me, NOW, the only way to make it is "devastate" the fujimi body with my blades. Is stuff I like a lot to do, even if also this time is a body work only (as well as my porsches and soon other stuff u will see on those screens. have a LOT of car bodies I want to make, all racers).
It is anyway a not so hard work to do. Honestly. Think really too many ones here inside can do it with a little patience.

Now is time 4me to retake the energy and appreciate some of the greatest stuff available from the wonderful northsea in this season...
...som svenska Kräftor...

I think resin С-pillars also need to be raised up.

I will copy my M3 race wheels for you, for sure, if you won't find another in your spare box.

Re: BMW M3e30 1/24

thank u so much mikhail. will see when back to italy what I have. I love the bbs rims (also chris now knows it..LOL) and I may have some spare ones from reneissance of the correct size. anyway u know when u will cast theme..I am interested as usual

going on with my surgeons

the front lip spoiler, optional on real cars, I would like to reproduce is the one clearly visible here:

mostly it was used on race track cars configs, despite the rally ones had the shorter lips down there

also rear bumper is resized and reshaped
