Need help: A4 or S80
Hey everyone. first timer here. I don't own any car whatsoever (had to pick one for registration though)
I'm looking at two cars here: 1999 Audi A4 Turbo Quattro - 55k miles on it. 2000 Volvo S80 T6 - 91k miles on it. Both will cost me around $7k. Assuming all else is equal...how big of a factor is that extra 36k miles? I know Volvo's are sturdy...but how sturdy? I'd like this car to last me for at least 5 years, which no major repairs, etc. That 91k is scaring me into buying the A4. Any comments would be highly appreciated. |

I'd get the A4, not only because of the mileage, but because it's a much sportier ride. Even non-enthusiasts know that Audi + AWD + turbo = fast

that's all great and good, but the bigger factor for me is which one isnt going to break down as much/fast. |

The audi will be in the shop alot for build quality issues. My family has had VW's in the past, and right now a A6 2.7T, and there always goin bakc to the dealer for stupid stuff. Hot ride, but stupid problems like electronics breaking down.
The volvo will be extremely reliable EXCEPT at 90k miles if it's still got the stock turbo, that may go bad on you in 5k or so.

Re: Need help: A4 or S80
ACTUALLY AUDI + TURBO + AWD DOESN'T NECESSARILY MEAN FAST.... THE MID 90'S A4 THE TURBO fRONT DRIVE WAS FASTER IN ALL BUT THE WORST CONDITIONS ON ACCOUNT OF LESS WEIGHT AND GETTING MORE POWER TO THE GROUND... ALL BE IT WITH LESS GRIP...
HAVING SAID THAT VOLVO'S ARE STURDY FOR A REASON... VERY SAFE.. HEARD THEY HAVE GREAT PARKING TOO... I'D GO THE AUDI IN A HEARTBEAT! THE NEW VOLVO'S ARE NICE BUT AUDI MAKE VERY NICE CARS...

Welcome to the AF family,
I personnally would go for the Volvo. Always have been fond of them and my friend has no problem whatsoever with hers. Why don't you ask /check around in both the Audi and Volvo sections to see if there are any problems with the vehicles. Get a Carfax report on them to see if they had any major hiccups in the past. Remember, An educated consumer is the best policy. See ya around.. TS out
