McLaren F1 cars in which games?

Recently I met the guy who modeled/programmed the McLaren F1 GTR cars for the BPR add-on to Electronic Arts' F1 2002. It's a fun game and I enjoyed driving the cars online, racing against people around the world. Most of them prefer to race BMWs and Porsches and F1 cars, but every so often you can find a race that allows you to choose the McLaren F1.

I am talking to him about developing a roadcourse simulation. That should be a lot of fun. If anyone wants to suggest localities that they have experienced great drives in, please send them to me in a private message and I will pass them on. He will fly there, videotape the drive, then simulate it on-screen to make it as realistic as possible. He checks the roads against GPS maps, so the roads and surrounds are both modeled fairly accurately.

Anyone driven the McLaren F1 cars in any other games? I believe it's in some Need for Speed game as well, right? Any others?

i think a McLaren has been in every Need For Speed game (except Porsche Unleashed) since NFS2.

other than NFS, i dont think it was in any other game series. maybe Gran Turismo, im not sure on that though.

yeah it's in nfs everything, not in gran turismo, but i really think it should be in gran turismo, because the gameplay, the realistics level of nfs is so annoying low, i want to drive it that i can fine tune it to my own needs, instead of crashing into things

Games
-most NFS
-Top Gear Overdrive (n64)
-Midtown Madness (#?) on PC d/l McLaren F1 from MM3 forum.
all i can think of, a guy in a previous post showed his modelling of an orage McLaren, they call it xp5 in MM to look special, its ironic you can change the colour, when it wos only really the colours in the famous pics.

Is the F1 in Top Gear Overdrive an F1 road car? I'm wondering because the only system I have is an N64. Also, there is an F1 road car in Automobili lamborghini for N64, its in dark green or a dull blue and i think theres a tan one with green stripes. Oh, and what other cars does Top Gear Overdrive have?

I finally got a chance to look through all these images and I'm quite impressed. Your attention to detail is excellent and the quality of your final product really shows. For anyone who hasn't checked out his work yet, I suggest you take the time to look.

All that being said, there was one error that I thought you might want to fix and it can be seen in this shot of the front brake rotor:

That additional small brake caliper you have on there is not really there on the real car - at least not in the front. It is the caliper that controls the parking brake and that is only found on the rear brake rotors. Check these two reference photos of the #007 F1 road car to see what I mean:

Front brakes:

Rear brakes:

It could be that you are simply reusing the same brake rotor wire model at all four corners to save on data size, but if not then you might want to make a revision to eliminate that small caliper on the front rotors.

Other than that minor detail, the rest of your reference photos look really great! Thanks again for sharing them!

ah thanks!

*adds to list of things to do*

but those brakes dont look the same to the ones i used as referance.

i have a book that has a pic of the brake assembly, (i might have seen the same pic on a site somwhere too) but the main caliper definalty looked white, not gold like on those pics?

i also notice the wheel has a gold nut in the center, could the design have changed slightly?

Well I suppose that if someone let the caliper oxidize that it might turn whitish in color, but as far as I know, all the road cars had calipers that matched the ones you see in both those photos. The white look may have also been caused by camera flash when the photo was taken. Maybe you could share the photo you used as reference?

As for the wheel nut, there are a few F1s that seem to have a more silver wheel nut - Dan Kennedy's #038 is one of them - so possibly that was left up to the customer's choice. Some cars - like the car that was just at Shelton Ferrari in Florida have a very dark golden wheel nut. Maybe it's another case of oxidization or tarnish that can cause that though. In the photos I have of various F1s, most show the wheel nut to be exactly like what you see on #007.

There is this photo from "Driving Ambition" which gives the highest detail on the brakes that I have seen. One anomaly is that the wheel nut in this photo is black and says "McLaren" instead of "F1", but the rotor and caliper appear to be exactly what I see on production F1s.
