Wheel advice for replicating my 1:1 Porsche 944

Hi Guys,

Ever since I bought a 1:1 944 I've wanted to build a replica of it.

Conveniently it seems that Italeri have re-released their 944S model kit so I've just ordered one to add to my increasingly large collection of un-built kits.

Apart from my apparent cripling inability to actually finish a model, I'm also having trouble working out what I can do to replicate the rare wheels on my 1:1. They're 16" Fondmetals.

Ideally I'd be able to find a nice set with the correct offset (deeper dish at the rear) and tyres. Obviously that's not going to happen so I plan to use the rim and tyre from the kit, cut out the centre and replace it with the cut-out centres from another set.

So, this is my question; does onyone know of any model wheels that have a similar design to mine that could be used to replicate the wheels I have in real life?

What about the Volk Mesh wheels. Fujimi and Aoshima made them, and are still easy available.

Kris.

Ahh, excellent. The Fujimi ones weren't quite there, but the Aoshima ones look fantastic. And they're in stock

Looks like I'll be doing some lathe work with my hobby drill...

Buy some 16" Fuchs for your 944, then you won't have a problem!

I was thinking a set of BBS's, but changing the wheels on your 1/1 is always a good option!

Simon you need a different set of volk mesh. the ones you showed are very very small. when you search aoshima volk mesh on google pictures you see the other set. the boxart shows a old nissan skyline.

Cheers Kris. I'll have to try some more googling to find a shop with the bigger type. I'm struggling at the moment though.

That's not the best 944 kit you're using but it's not bad either. I used one to replicate my '87 .. the engine was the most work putting it back to a normally aspirated version. This is a link to that one ..

I'll be looking forward to posting progress on your build..

Hello Simon! If you want to do some kit bashing, the R30 Skyline by Aoshima will have the rims you are looking for as the diameter is larger than the ones shown on the previous reply. You may want to check out the link below:

Hope this helps.

Cheers

That looks pretty nice. Thanks for sharing

I've realised that I've got a lot of changes to make so that this is closer to my pre '85 one. I'll have to scratch build the dashboard and door cards for a start!

Thanks Nam. That's certainly one option if I can't get them separately.

Are these the same wheels . Volk mesh #136?

Re: Wheel advice for replicating my 1:1 Porsche 944

As a little experiment i've tried to make them myself...

It's not going too bad. I've just started to square-off the holes with a home made 0.5mm file.
