Suzuki Aerio P950 Pikes Peak Special
This is not news, but I post this because I haven't found any thread informing Suzuki's show this year.
You can call it the next PPIHC Escudo, but 3-time champion Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima couldn't finish the race to the clouds in the new Aerio, for the Pike's Peak International Hill Climb 2001. In an attempt to beat Rod Millen's record 10:04:06, set in '94, Tajima encountered steering problems, caused by a broken mounting bolt on the right front shock close to 2 miles from the finish line, putting to waste the record pace being held while on the run this year (midway trap speed of 132.6 mph--10 mph higher than the competition). The beast is powered by a twin IHI RX-6 turbocharged 2.7L V-6, based on the Suzuki H27A, pumping 995 hp @ 8100 rpm (at sea level). The reason for the increased performance, despite 3500 lbs. of unladen weight and lack of a twin engine design, is primarily due to improved balance. Not only is the engine mid-mounted, but the driver's weight is found center-close as well, yielding 53:47 from the driver's point. "Monster" Tajima is expected to return next year, as is current record holder Millen. Get ready to see things heat up! |

Seriously! This is the next Escudo. Let's just hope that the next hill climb won't damage any parts from this sick animal. Good luck, 'Monster'.

Was the original Escudo based on the Grand Vitara?

The Pikes peak Escudo is/was not based on the the GRAND VITARA, but the japanese market version of the VITARA (the Escudo, go figure).
