ABS light won't go out ?

My Uncle has a 2001 Dodge Ram. He has bled the lines and the calipers have released. But still ABS light will not go out ? If more info is needed I will ask him

Re: ABS light won't go out ?

It could be a bad hub or speed sensor/abs sensor.

Thanks for reply, I forgot to add, he said also brake light won't go out. But guessing that might be a sensor as well ?

Re: ABS light won't go out ?

A scan tool that reads ABS codes will point you in the right direction.
Know anyone with a repair shop? Their scanner can read it.

Sometimes a front hub bearing going bad will wipe out the ABS sensor there.

Re: ABS light won't go out ?

From a distance, I would say the ABS light is on because the brake light is on. ABS goes inactive if it senses a hydraulic issue, in general. Could be as easy as the proportioning valve needs reset- and after repair of a leaky line, a good firm push on the brakes can reset it automatically. Other than that, look for the electrical plug at the switch- is it connected properly?

Also, brake light may be on due to parking brake not pulled all the way back- check that out, and the parking brake switch as well..

I disagree. My 07 GP had a leaky rear caliper. I didn't get to it right away and if I forgot to top off the reservoir it would kick my brake light on due to the low fluid, but ABS remained functional with no additional lights.

Just because the brake light is on doesn't make the ABS light come on.

Re: ABS light won't go out ?

May depend on "low fluid" light -vs- proportioning valve not centered light. I just fixed a 99 Yukon where the leaky line had triggered the proportioning valve, lit the red brake light and the ABS light. Once rear line fixed, two good pushes on brake pedal after bleeding and both lights went out.

So what does the OP red brake light switch monitor, the fluid level or the proportioning valve? A quick check underhood will give him the answer.

Re: ABS light won't go out ?

I have a 2001 2500 Ram w/4 whl. disc brakes.
Both my ABS and Brake lights are on due to a bad ABS module.
One day I suddenly heard the ABS pump running, pulled over and unplugged the motor to keep from burning it up.
My brakes still work fine, jes' no ABS.
I'll probably have the module repaired. Without the module, both the speedometer and odometer do not work.

Re: ABS light won't go out ?

Thanks for reply's. I got more info from my Uncle about this problem if it helps.

2001 Dodge Ram 2500 4WD
Has front ABS brakes and RWAL in differential. Get 2 codes ( #1 malfunctioning left sensor, 2 malfunctioning right sensor. )

He has replaced both hubs complete with ABS, and rebuilt calipers. New pads and bled and re-bled system. Also has checked wire connections.

Problem is ABS and brake light, stay on. Turning the key on will make both go out for 1 second, then they are back on, and stay on.

Re: ABS light won't go out ?

Here's a free downloadable 2001 service manual.
The download is kinda slow but worth the wait.

ABS starts on page 462
