'02 CD changer = junk?
I have had my X since March, I am about to have my CD changer replaced for the second time. It works fine for a short while then refuses to accept discs. While I realize stock changers are not as good as the aftermarket stuff out there, is the Nissan CD changer typically this poor? Has anyone else had this kind of trouble?
Thanks in advance |

Well, I haven't had any problems with mine, but I've only had my '02 for a little over two weeks now... I'll be sure to post on here if it does give me any problems.

I've had mine since November and I use it more than the radio. So far not one issue with the workings of it. I do have to say I'm a bit dissapointed in the overall quiality of the "Rockford Fosgate" system.
I guess thats just one more mod to add to the list.

Actually, as in-dash changers go, the Panasonic unit that Nissan uses is quite good. I'm surprised you've had two go bad.
One thing to note: Becuase of the space limitations and complexity of an in-dash changer, you do need to be more careful with them. I've found that certain CD-R's (usually the cheap ones) cause problems and even a slight warp in a disc may jam soemthing up. BTW, I go through a lot of CD players...especially those that say Sony or Nakamichi on them.

Hmmm, I thrash my internal one and my Pioneer changer - so far no issues in over two years. I jam all sorts of CD's in there. Luck of the draw I guess...

Suggestion...
Have you tried disconnecting the battery, waiting a few minutes, and then re-connecting. Just a guess.

I've now had my Xterra for 1 year and over 20k miles and I have had 0 problems with the cd changer. I agree on the quality though. It may be more speakers than head unit. I'm actually looking to get one of those self powered bass tubes. I don't want a ton of bass but I don't like the distortion I hear in the factory speakers when I crank up the volume a bit.

I had the original CD changer replaced 2x in the course of 2 months last year when I originally posted the question. I am on the 3rd still without any issues to speak of....knock on wood.
