Where to buy EFE TVS?

Hi all,

Before I head to the junkyard, I was wondering if anyone knows where to get an EFE TVS (Early fuel evaporation thermal vacuum switch). The EFE valve is AKA a heat riser I believe -- but I'm looking for the thermal vacuum switch for it. I need a new or good used one because my engine seems to overheat because the EFE valve remains open.

This eBay page shows what it looks like: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1980-...item519400ec27

I called my local parts dealer and they said they've been discontinued... This part was used up until the '90 Caprice I believe and he said those too are discontinued. In fact, he believes that they don't make them anymore and he said they can't even get them.

I checked my usual places, http://www.rockauto.com and eBay. A user on eBay has a few for a corvette with similar year ranges but no info on the temperature rating (I asked and am awaiting a response).

Thanks.

Driven in severe weather most of the year (Arizona 100+ degrees during summer heat or in wet weather especially in harsh monsoons). About 30/70 highway/city driving.

this vacuum switch is for the exhaust manifold output valve ? this is to restrict exhaust until the engine gets to about 160deg f. then it opens the butteryfly valve at the manifold exhaust exit..

If so this is not necessary. I deleted my exhaust valve when it rusted off..what I did was using s/steel wire of .o30 in dia wired it in the full open position.. did not notice any bad effects ,,actually engine ran better when cold...

IN the rust belt these rust up in the closed or partially closed position , then the engine does overheat and acts like a plugged cat converter ..

Re: Where to buy EFE TVS?

Perhaps I can just disconnect the line to it (so it stays open and prevents overheating if possible; and block off the line).

Nevertheless I would like to get the vacuum switch replaced at some point. It does get to freezing temperatures here during a short time of the year...

you don't need it ! wire it in the full open position . It would have to be below zero not freezing to where it may require you to warm the engine 5 more minutes...because its gone..

here up north these as I mentioned they rust up, and stick closed..so most rip them out . this is why no one has this stuff...

Yeah that makes sense; I just disconnected the line and capped the EFE vac switch port. No more annoying noise and there seems to be no noticeable affect on the engine whatsoever.

Thanks.

If I lived in alaska I might worry about it ...not where you live....

you need the lowest amount of exhaust restriction ...cold air intake for that carb...also...

I know this because I go out your way this time of year..I'll be out to scottdale/sedona very soon...hope the rain stays away...
