Has anyone heard of a brake "accumulator"?

I have a serious brake problem and have done some research on the net and think that my problem is what i have seen to be called the brake accumulator. All the parts stores have never heard this term...does anyone know what an alternate name for this part could be?

thanks a bunch!

If this accumalater is behind the master cylinder that is called the booster. It's a big black circle behind the master cylinder. What's the matter with the brake system and what kind of car is it on.

I was wrong the first time i typed you a reply. I asked someone who knows a lot about cars and a brake accumulator is either a small black ball or a small cylinder somewhere by the master cylinder. It's used to help assist in breaking. It stores brake fluid under about 2000 pounds of pressure. I myself never herd of the term either, untill i read about your problem. Let me know how things work out for you.

Yes, I have *grin*

An accumulator in any hydraulic system serves two purposes:
1) It stores liquid under pressure.
2) Smoothes out pressure surges in hydraulic systems.

In the braking system, it maintains the pressures in the line so that every time you step on the pedal, you are not always starting from scratch to build up the necessary pressure to activate the brakes.
