car starts automatically

Yesterday we just got a range rover checked up and oil changed at the dealers. They didn't find anything wrong. But today, we went to get gas, then when pressing the button to open the gas tank, the engine starts by itself. So we take it to the dealer again, and they say that when they turn on the headlights, the car engine also starts. They also say that it is because someone added an aftermarket alarm and cut many wrong wires. However, we have never added an aftermarket alarm or done any additions to the car's systems since we bought it. We don't know much about cars, but if there was something wrong yesterday, they should have seen and fixed it then. It is only after we took it for a checkup that this problem happened.

We want to find a mechanic to fix it, but need to know what would cause the engine to start when the gas door is opened or head lights are turned on, to keep us from getting ripped off.

Has anyone expereinced this problem?

Thanks.

Re: car starts automatically

First and foremost disconnect the battery. and then reset the ECU. and then check if still the car starts by its own.
