Is there a fuel pump access door inside ml320?

I own a 2001 ml320, recently fuel gauge went on it. From what I know the fuel pump and the gauge are one unit, so I purchased the new fuel pump assembly.

On older Mercedes vehicles there is fuel pump access door, does ml320 have one too? I had no luck finding it.

I would hate to take the fuel tank out just because of the pump.

Any help is appreciated, thx

Re: Is there a fuel pump access door inside ml320?

you have to remove the left rear seat and pull the carpet up. there will be a round metal panel that is glued to the floor. it is not fun to get the panel off and then once you do that the fuel lines on top of the pump are a little tricky to release.

before you replace it the ml's had a lot of fuel gauge issues that were not related to the fuel sending unit on the pump you might want to remove the fuses for the instrument cluster first, then look into a scan tool and make sure the software is correct in the instrument cluster. Mercedes has service bulletins for both problems and some others. don't forget the wiring problems on the frame rail just in front of the left rear tire.
