jumping wire for diagnosing?

does anybody knows how to jump the wire to check for the trouble code?
how do you jump wires. i was trying to figure out the trouble code on my car but when i read the manual it told me to jump the wire. they didn't say how to jump the wire, so if anybody knows i'll really appreciate it.

I think it is the same either way. All you need is a wire (jumper)...strip both ends of the wire and insert one end on one side of the diag connector and the other end on the other side of the connector. Turn the key to the 'on' position. The 'check engine' light will blink...count the blinks (long blinks = the tens spot...short blinks = the ones spot). If you have more than one code, they will be displayed in sequence, then a pause, then they will repeat.
