2001 escape V6 with starting trouble

I have an 01 Escape V6. I am experiencing trouble when trying to start it, you have to keep cranking it until it turns over. Once started, the car works fine. I cleaned the throttle body but I am still having the same problem. Any one else with the same problem or ideas on how to resolve it?

When was your last tune-up? Have you checked fuel pressure?

Re: 2001 escape V6 with starting trouble

tune up was about 1500 miles ago after the problem began...i changed everything, fuel filter, air filter, pcv valve and plugs/wires. I still have the same problem. I also cleaned the throttle body a few times. One mechanic said it may be a problem with the computer which would require the computer to be reflashed....another person said it could be a throttle control valve. The tcv was replaced and the problem still exists!!! Any other ideas?

If the problem only happens after it sits for awhile, then I would suspect the fuel pump has a "Leakdown" concern causing this.

it seems to happen all the time. I can start it, and then turn it off, and when I try to restart it I experience the same problem

Re: 2001 escape V6 with starting trouble

Starting problems have started with my 01 Escape also. After running for awhile with air conditioning on, if I turn it off it wont start. happened twice now in two weeks. Never before. It will crank and crank but wont start., If I let it sit for 15 minutes it will start. NO system light or over heating????

Johnny, I brought it to the dealer and that is exactly what they told me. Thanks for the help. Too bad I had to pay $600 to have the dealer change it.

Re: 2001 escape V6 with starting trouble

I own a 2 liter escape 2001. Done 240,000km.
My experience few times were engine crank and cam sensor.
I ve even replace the ECU unit but it is still the same.
Pls replace it and it should solve it, try it.
