Odd idol, loss of power, code PO171

I bought a 09 Passat wagon 2.0 turbo it has 142000 miles on it I bought it 12k miles ago.
It has a PO 171 error code on it. It seems to idol different now, it will idol sort of normal then seem to idol down just a bit for 3 or 4 seconds then resume proper idol, when driving it is seems like it has a little less power than usual.
I don’t know if this is related I imagine it could be, the day this happened I went to go for lunch, I put the car in reverse and had no power steering, I turned the car off and restarted it and the steering worked, later in the day the engine light came on with the 171 code, any ideas what to look for, I did look for vacuum leeks in the hoses but didn’t seem to find any.
