brown liquid in battery tray

i took my battery out and noticed a brown liquid covering the whole bottom of the battery tray, not sure if its water that hasn't evaporated or if there's a battery leak. it seems like its a leak cause there's dried up lines of fluid or something coming down from the battery crevices and from under the plates i think but not sure. anyone know what it might be?

Re: brown liquid in battery tray

as the battery charges and discharges the acid inside lets off hydrogen gas and it can condense on the outside of the battery are run down into the tray. if you think its a leak, if you can, carefully remove the cell cover caps and make sure all the cells are full. if one or several are low refill the with distilled water only. if they were low you can check it a few days later and see if they are low again

If the battery checks out, see if you just have water coming in from the outside thru an opening in the body/ hood/ grill.
