Question about brake wear sensor

My 2002 Z3 only has 11,000 miles on it. Thats not a typo. 11,000 miles

The car is flawless in every way and the triangle notification light on the dash came on along with the brake light. I'm not sure why this would be coming on with so low miles. Is this for the brake wear sensor? Would this normally happen with so little miles? The brakes feel like new.

Not sure if this had any affect but I'll mention it. I washed the wheels and cleaned them before I drove the car when it when the light came on. I wouldn't think this would've done anything....

Any input is appreciated.
