93 TC Steering Issue

I own a 93 with 193k miles, and recently ive noticed at speeds 30 mph and above the car will sway when going through a curve, the higher the speed the more difficult it is to keep under control, can anyone give me some insight as to what this could be? im leaning toward tie rods or steering gear but any advice would help a ton! thanks!

Re: 93 TC Steering Issue

Welcome to the forum!

I don't think your problem is the steering gear. It has to be something related to the suspension.

It's very likely the sway bar bushings and/or links are shot, inspect those first.

Also and as preventative maintenance check all of the font suspension components: upper and lower ball joints, control arm bushings. Look for dry/rotted parts and play between them.

Bushings are easy to spot if they are missing parts replace them, if they are dry and look cracked they are at the end of their life.

Sway bar links: with the car on the ground rock them and look for any excessive play.

Ball joints: lift the car by the control arm, put the jack under the shock absorber and lift it until the wheel is in the air. Rock the wheel back and forth and also look for play. Insert a long bar under the wheel and make pressure against the wheel that will also help to spot a bad ball joint.

You can have an assistant to rock the wheel while you inspect the components.

Oscar.
