03 Neon SE Door sensor?

This has been a nagging issue with my 03. As many of you know, the door sensor is part of the latch assembly. The issue is intermittent and doesn't impact locking or the function of the door, but I often have to hit the door while parked to get it to turn off. The indicator also frequently kicks on while driving. Does anyone have any suggestions to get the sensor to stay off? I've tried duct taping the hinge with no luck.
