Trying life again, 20 years down the road...
I just picked up a 1986 Chevrolet Sprint! If anyone ever EVER sees this post your thinking, "Why would you ever want what started teh Geo Metro?" Well truth be told, this is a project car for the youth of our chruch to work on, but the car is mine and I have to pay to get it driveable. It was parked about the time the original Toy Story movie came out, told by the Dairy Queen cup in the back seat, which was back in 1995. YIKES!
There are some big plans for this car! We dont just want to make it run around, we are going to compleatly restore the thing. A nice black will be the new color because it's cheap and easy to do. We would like to do some engine mods to it, including the 87 turbo upgrade. I've notitced there have been NO posts to the Sprint section , but I know someone else has a sprint out there!

I don't, but you should hook up some nitrous and take it to the track!

Re: Trying life again, 20 years down the road...
I have a '87 sprint with 123,000 miles and runs like a champ .The carburetor is a really a massive piece of art in itself and there is where you get your lots of miles to the gallon. I'm holding on to this hatchback as it can't be beat for miles to the gallon on whats out there today. I use to get 50 miles to the gallon but now it's less and I've got to freshen things up a bit. Sounds like a good project with the kids but remember your in competition with tv, i-pods, the girls, but if just one takes an intrest ......you got the making of a mechanic. goodluck...........and no cussing on bruised knuckles.

Re: Trying life again, 20 years down the road...
Well, since the last post We've gutted the interior and started mounting some new seats in the Sprint. We've drilled out the old mounts and now just have to bolt down the new seats. We are having a lot of fun and hope to have the car done before school starts in a couple of weeks.

Re: Trying life again, 20 years down the road...
I was at a tire shop getting new tires put on the car I had at the time, when up rolls
this interesting 87 Chevy Sprint... It doesn't have a hood on it, has a single velocity stack sticking up and has somewhat of a rumble to it. I get a chuckle out of it, but it turns out that the owner of the Sprint knows the guys that work at the tire shop. I didn't hear too much, but I did hear that he's running custom made 11:1 racing pistons, custom ground cam, plus a 125HP shot of nitous on the little three banger! The tire shop boys asked him if he had it to the track yet, but he said no as he was still working out some bugs in the system. Scott |
