2004 Impala Police Package fans Not Working

Hello everyone,

I have a 04 Impala Police Package 3.8 V6. My car would overheat within 5 minutes. I check the relay, fuses and they were good. I remove the fans from the car, then put direct current to the fan it works. However, it doesn't work when I put it in the car. What temperature does the fan go on? Can somebody please help me?

Thank you,

First thing, what is the coolant level on a cold engine? Is the reservoir level on the cold mark? Remove the rad cap and check if the radiator is completely full....

If coolant levels are ok, how did you check the relays? Did you ground #1 relay, and did both fans run at low speed? you get high speed on both fans by grounding #1 relay AND either #2 or #3 relay.

How old is the thermostat?

Did you check the heater core for blockage?

Does the car overheat If you start it cold, and immediately go on the highway with it?

Low speed fans usually come on around 218F....high speed at 229F.....

Re: 2004 Impala Police Package fans Not Working

Thank you for responding!

The coolant level is a little below the Full line. I check the radiator and it’s full.

I only check if there was power going through. I did not ground them. Which number on the relay do I ground?

The thermostat is brand new. I bought it 4 days ago. I change the water pump, Temp sensor, I also replace the radiator.

I haven’t checked the heater core for blockage. I will check that today.

The car will overheat if I start it cold within 5 minutes

Thank you again!
