45,850 miles, the drivers window stopped working. My wife came into the house and said it sounds like the window is broken. I opened it all up and pulled the cable/motor gear and the whole assembly out, its a mess it seems the aircraft cable jumped the plastic gear guides and kinked it all up. It looks to me that I might not be able to just replace the cable but maybe both tracks etc. We discussed selling the car but at this point we would lose about 15,000.00 dollars. Or are people paying 20,000 for the 2000? |

Would it be possible to purchase a 2000 and have them install a 2003+ transmission in it?

Probably not.
The 2003 S-Type uses a ZF 6 speed automatic transmission. Also, my parents leased a 2001 Jaguar S-Type 4.0 from 2001 until 2004. It had few problems and the dealer gave us a new aluminum XJR to have overnight and it was awesome. It had great build quality, gorgeous lines, and awesome performance. The S-Type was revised for the 2003 model year. It has a 10 % more rigid chassis than the 2002 model year. A new interior New front suspension with more aluminum Heavily revised rear suspension with more aluminum New 4.2 liter engine (much improved over the 4.0 liter V-8 that first came out in the 1997 Jaguar XK8) check here for Jaguar's V-8 http://www.jagweb.com/aj6eng/v8_performance.html The new S-Type R had an additional brace in the rear, Brembo brakes, a 4.2 liter 390 hp supercharged V-8, and lot of other modifications. The 2005 S-Type was revised with... a new aluminum hood with a more pronounced 'V' shape new exterior styling slightly new interior (gauges, optional aluminum trim, and some other stuff) revised rear suspension new wheels and some other stuff I probably forgot |

Re: Is it any good?
I have a 2000 S-type with 49,000 miles. The car is great, but i did have some problems some i'm to blame and some I guess comes with age. I had to repair the window regulators on both driver and passenger side. my stereo was making a humming noise but that was due to the amp connection in the trunk starting to come loose. I changed the brakes line but again it was because i was driving where i wasnt suppose to be driving. So most were preventable. I am having some issues now which i havent taken it in yet. All and all its a great car dispite the age. If i had to do it again i would get the newer year when all the bugs are worked out.
